Patch Top 10: Headlines of the Week

It was a week that saw several different kinds of stories: From important school news, to big reports in the sports world.

Former West Islip High School lacrosse standouts Nicky Galasso, Justin Turri and Ian Braddish were all named to the Tewaaraton Trophy watch list, which recognizes the best player in collegiate lacrosse.

The girls track team, as noted by coach Chris Kaigh, have been on a record-setting tear this season.  Some will compete in national tournaments come march. 

And we can't forget about the guys track runners.  They've been setting new school records the throughout the entire winter

In important school news, Superintendent Rick Simon told Patch the as a result of the two elementary schools closing, approximately 45 jobs will be lost.

As part of Wellness Weekend, the school district has announced that the annual 5k Fun Run is scheduled for March 4.  Sign up today!
