Local Scouts Honor Late Veterans [PHOTOS]

West Islip's Pack 83 carry out annual tradition of placing flags at veteran's graves.

Cub Scout Pack 83, of West Islip, spent their Saturday placing American flags at the graves of veterans, honoring an annual tradition that has been carried out for years.

The scouts, along with several other volunteer groups, place an American flag on every grave at the Long Island National Cemetery each year on the Saturday before Memorial Day. They return the following Saturday to collect the flags.

The Long Island National Cemetery houses the final resting places of thousands of American war heroes including those from both World Wars, the Spanish American War, Korea, and Vietnam.
