TFCU & GrooveCars' Car of the Week: The 2011 Honda Pilot

For the month of September, TFCU and Groove Car are offering exclusive deals to make attaining your dream car even easier! And here is an even better deal- if you buy the Honda Pilot featured as the #CaroftheWeek, you’ll get four (4) free passes to the Riverhead Aquarium!

Honda has been known for it’s sedan offerings, but the Japanese juggernaut in recent years has catered to American tastes with the Honda Pilot, a mid-sized crossover SUV that is built in Lincoln, Alabama. Since its introduction in 2002, the Pilot has won numerous awards and become a commercial success for Honda.

Utilizing a platform sourced from the Honda Odyssey minivan and the legendary Accord, as well as the underpinnings and powertrain from the Acura MDX, the Pilot strikes the balance that Long Islanders love: car-like handling, SUV-like driving position, and some off-road capability. While you won’t be crawling rocks or racing in the Paris to Dakar Rally, you can drive through an impressive 19 inches of standing water in models equipped with all-wheel drive. Further, you can comfortably seat 8 people.

Power is sourced from Honda’s capable 3.5L V6 VTEC engine, with 250 horsepower, 253 pound/feet of torque. The EPA estimates that with average driving, you can get  17mpg city and 23mpg highway. With the Pilot, The Pilot has a 4,500 lb boat and 3,500 lb trailer towing capability, which should be more than ample for most suburban homeowners.
