WI Lax Players Appear on ESPN Preseason Lists

Brendan Smith, Jack Kelly and Nick Aponte among boys to be recognized.

Several West Islip High School boys lacrosse players were recognized in ESPN preseason lists written by Tom Peace, who is a lacrosse rankings expert for ESPNHS.com.

Peace ranks attackman Brendan Smith No. 80 and goalie Jack Kelly No. 87 in his ESPNHS 100: Class of 2012 rankings.

You might remember Smith, who's committed to Marquette, as the hero of the Suffolk Class A title game last season.  Kelly, who's committed to Brown, will start this season after patiently waiting behind Kyle Turri, who's now with the Duke Blue Devils.

"Kelly played great at the Battle of the Hotbeds. He is a very smart goalie with nice skills around the goal. He sets up the clear well with his defenseman."

Last but certainly not least is Nick Aponte. Peace ranks Aponte--a middie who starred as a sophomore for the Lions last season--No. 26 in his ESPNHS Top 50 Juniors list.
