West Islip Grads Named to Academic All-America Team

Matt DiDonna, Vinny Caccavale named to Capital One Academic All-America Division II soccer teams.

West Islip graduated and current NYIT seniors Vinny Caccavale and Matt DiDonna, of the NYIT men's soccer team, were named to Capital One Academic All-America® Division II soccer teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A four-year starter for the Bears, DiDonna led the 2013 team with 20 points on seven goals and a team-best six assists. He posted three game-winning goals during the season. DiDonna brings his collegiate career to a close ranked in four all-time categories: games played (2nd - 74), points (4th - 81), goals (5th - 33), and assists (4th - 15). An NYIT Athletic Director's Honor Roll and East Coast Conference (ECC) All-Academic recipient, he has compiled a 3.86 grade-point average as an accounting major.

Caccavale is also a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Bears, who compiled 13 points on four goals and five assists in 2013. Caccavale, who has been an integral part of the Bears' offense, brought his collegiate career to a close ranked in four all-time categories: games played (4th - 70), points (5th - 64), assists (2nd - 22), and goals (9th - 21). He earned his second straight CoSIDA Academic All-District honor with a 3.45 GPA as a communications arts major. Last fall, he was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-American.  
 
The Bears finished the 2013 season with a 13-5 overall record and a 6-4 mark in the ECC. NYIT earned the program's sixth NCAA Tournament bid but fell to Dowling 2-1 in the first round.
