First Quarter

Find out what's happening in West Islipwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

9:06 - After a three-and-out by the West Islip defense, junior QB Anthony Santo hits Drew Federico with a 55-yard touchdown pass.  All before I can set up my laptop.  7-0 WI.

7:52 - The sky here at Copiague High School looks like it's about to collapse.  This isn't good for my camera, or my mac.  Or my jeans.

4:43 - Copiague drops a wide open pass on third-and-5.  Big break for West Islip.  And Copiague just shanked their punt.  Even better news and better field position for the Lions.

2:22 - West Islip stops the Eagles on fourth-and-2, take over on the their own 35-yard line.

:32 - 51-yard punt downed at the 2 for the Lions.  Safety situation.

:00 - At the end of the first quarter, West Islip leads Copiague 7-0.  Rain still holding up.  There's a jinx for ya.

Second Quarter

11:00 - Federico botched the punt at midfield, but was able to retain possession.  Huge break for the Lions.

10:11 - Second-and-goal from Copiagues 8.  TOUCHOWN!!!!  8-yard pass from Santo to Dan Cozier.  14-0 WI!

9:32 - JaShaun Jerrick converts a third-and-three for Copaigue.  Eagles marching.

8:20 - West Islip linebacker Stephen Gallante seems to be in on every tackle.  Kids got no regard for his body.  Which is a good thing in football, in case you were wondering.

6:57 - Copiague going for it on fourth down again.  This time, only inches to go.  Gutsy?  Nah.  If you can't get an inch, mine as well get off the field.  Here we go... QB sneak gets it.  Gallante again with the tackle.

3:48 - 27-yard run by Cozier for a West Islip first down.  Dude's fast.  Also, Matt Brady in the game as quarterback.  Coach Mileti handing out time like it's M&M's.

3:09 - I'll be uploading first half pics in three minutes and nine seconds.  Or in football time, 5 hours and 35 minutes.

2:06 - Copiague's Daryl Mitchell sacks Brady for an 8-yard loss.  with 1:11 remaining in the half, the Eagles will take over at their own 40.

:00 - At the end of the first half, WI leads Copiague 14-0.  Eagles not able to generate anything on offense.  That, or Lions defense playing lights out.  I'll go with the latter.

Third Quarter

12:00 - Eagles will kickoff to start the second half.  On another note, I'm now sitting in the press box.  Who has it better than me?  Really?  Oh and by the way, it was a touchback.

10:28 - Santo comes out throwing, completing a pass to Federico for 10 yards.  First down at their own 45.

8:24 - Incomplete pass intended for Corzier.  Lions forced to punt from the Eagle's 45.  And sorry about those halftime pictures.  It took 25 minutes to upload one.  Not good.

6:22 - Another 3-and-out for the Eagles.  8-yard return by James Tucci.  First down from their own 44.  I smell a big pass play.

6:00 - Great inside option toss to Mike Sagl for a 21-yard scamper.  And I caught video of it too.  YES!

4:26 - Fourth-and-2 upcoming for the Lions.  Santo passes it to Sagl for what appears to be a first.  Measuring...Still measuring...FIRST DOWN LIONS by the length of a twizzler.

2:02 - Tom Woodburn pulls a 33-yard field goal.  Score remains 14-0 Lions.  And I remain starving.

1:51 - WOW!! Pick six for Mike Sagl! 20-yard return to paydirt!  20-0 pending the extra point...Which is...GOOD!  21-0.

Fourth Quarter

12:00 - First play of the fourth quarter and QB Rolando Rowe hits WR Terrick Simms for a 54-yard touchdown pass.  Eagles on the board, 21-7.

10:44 - Ronny Garcia on the option toss from Matt Brady.  First down Lions at their own 44.

10:30 - West Islip in a hurry up offense, and Matt Brady runs a QB keeper for 16 yards.  Definitely not something Tom Brady would ever do.

9:20 - This two quarterback system is working well for West Islip.  Both Brady and Santo can kill you with their arms or their legs.

8: 30 - On the doorstep of the endzone, Brady throws a pick to who else but QB/K/DB senior Rolando Rowe.  But a penalty negates a decent return.  First-and-10 Eagles from their own 3.

8: 20 -  Rowe completes a 26-yard strike from his own endzone.  The ball appeared to be intercepted by Corzier, but Lezlie Morgan stole it away before they touched turf.

5:17 - Eagles going for it on fourth-and-8 from their own 40.  Rowe's pass falls incomplete, intended for Terrick Simms.  Lions take over.

3:23 - Santo throws a 57-yard touchdown BOMB to Rob Pescitelli, who caught the ball with a lot of blue shirts around him.  That should do it.  28-7 West Islip.

2:48 - Douglas Weisbecker picks off Rowe, in what should cap the game.  RB Ronnie Garcia doing his best to run the clock out.

:00 - And that'll do it from Copiague High School.  Final score: West Islip 28, Copiague 7.  Stay tuned for the game story, photos and video.
