Flanagan Named MLL All-Star

Former West Islip High School lacrosse star receives honor for second consecutive year.

When Ryan Flanagan last wore a West Islip lacrosse jersey, he was celebrating a state-title and finished his high school career as an All-American.

On Monday, the Charlotte Hounds defenseman was named to his second consecutive Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Team.

This season, Flanagan has recorded 16 groundballs in six games while playing defense for the Hounds. In Week 6, he held reigning MLL Offensive Player of the Year Paul Rabil pointless for the first time since 2010.

“Lacrosse is such a small community that a lot of us have known each other for a few years,” the 2007 West Islip High School graduate said after being named an All-Star. “It is a lot of fun to catch up with everyone and play with some of the best players ever."

In addition to participating in the All-Star game, Flanagan will host the MLL All-Star Youth Tournament in conjunction with Team 24/7 Lacrosse, the Charlotte-based youth lacrosse program he founded in 2010. Youth teams from around the country will have an opportunity to compete in a jamboree style tournament taking place the Saturday and Sunday of All-Star weekend.

“This year will be very special to me because the game is being played right here in Charlotte,” Flanagan said. “I have loved living in this city and really look forward to having the best players in the world here. It is going to be a great experience for the fans and the community.”

He is one of four Hounds players that will be participating in the All-Star Game on July 13 at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte.
