West Islip Athletes Honored for Citzenship, Character and Performance

Seniors Lindsay Darrell and Mike Moynihan have been named West Islip's Outstanding Physical Education Students by state group.

The Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation recently recognized seniors Lindsay Darrell and Mike Moynihan as West Islip’s Outstanding Physical Education Students at a gala event on December 4 at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch Hotel.

The annual award is given to students who best exemplify exceptional physical performance, character, and citizenship.

Darrell prides herself on striving for excellence both academically and athletically. She believes success in physical education will lead to success throughout her life. Darrell has been an active member of the National Honor Society, National English Society and Foreign Language Honor Society. Her vibrant spirit and enthusiasm can be seen in everything she does. Due to her leadership, Darrell is captain of her soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. She has provided over 100 hours of community service and volunteers with a local special needs children’s soccer program. Darrell will be attending Northwestern University in the fall on a lacrosse scholarship.

Moynihan continues to accept every challenge that comes his way. He has maintained an A+ average in Physical Education and with his determination and strong will he can accomplish everything he sets his mind to. 

Moynihan is a captain of the varsity football and lacrosse teams, and a member of the winter track team. He has selflessly dedicated himself to over 125 hours of community service and helps coach youth lacrosse in West Islip. In the fall, Moynihan will attend Quinnipiac University on a lacrosse scholarship.
