Talk Back: Still Having School Bus Issues?

Are you having busing issues since the school year began? Talk about it here.

A number of parents have contacted Patch regarding issues with the school bus system throughout the first week of school, particularly complaining of major delays both to and from school.

One parent wrote on our Facebook Page: "Our kids got dropped off home 30 minutes late from Manetuck and we live 5 blocks away."

Another reader, , claimed his child was placed on the wrong bus. "I am sure it was great for most kids but unfortunately my son was sent home on the WRONG Bus," he said.

While a few kinks are to be expected during the first week of school, parents are concerned that there is a bigger issue, with some saying the are to blame.

Is your child experiencing busing problems, or has the issue resolved itself? Tell us in the comments below.

I can only speak of what I witnessed at Oquenock: The busses coming east and west on Arcadia are unable to turn north onto Spruce Avenue when there are cars are parked on both sides of the road --- the busses simply don’t fit. The result is gridlock. The gridlock certainly can’t be blamed on the bus drivers unless they were the ones who assured all of us that closing two schools and stuffing our children into a buildings that can’t accommodate them was the “best choice for West Islip”.

What used to be a two minute walk from Westbrook to get home is now a 35 minute bus ride from Bellew. We could walk home from Bellew in half that time. Udall is twice as far from my house but that bus ride took only 10 minutes. All I know is that Religion classes begin at 4:00 but children are not arriving home until after four, so I don't know how that's going to work. I don't blame the bus drivers either for this "best choice for West Islip".
