Gellar, LaRosa Re-elected to BOE Positions

Annual reorganization meeting kicks off 2012-2013 school year.

Board of Education President Steve Gellar and Vice President Annmarie LaRosa were re-elected to their respective positions for the 2012-2013 school year at the school board's annual reorganization meeting Tuesday night.

Gellar was nominated by LaRosa, while LaRosa was nominated by Trustee Ron Maginniss. Both nominations were approved by the board.

"I'm looking forward to once again serving the West Islip community," LaRosa told Patch.

The meeting, which preceded the board's regular monthly meeting in Performing Arts Center at the , kicks off the new school year.

The BOE is coming off of a turbulent year, punctuated by obstacles including a and the resulting . Those challenges will continue into the coming year, as the BOE prepares for the consolidation of the district's elementary schools and once again faces a tax cap mandate in the midst of rising costs.

This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
