First-Ever Budget Committee Seeking Members

Group will meet several times a month in 2012.

The WI School District is currently looking for qualified candidates to join their 2011-12 Budget Advisory Committee.

Board of Education President Steve Gellar calls the situation with the upcoming WI school budget "dynamic" and expects the first-ever committee to consist of 10-15 members.  

Trustee George Smith will head the committee, Gellar said.

"The committee will meet approximately three to four times per month from January to March and then as needed until June," he said.

Despite facing a 7.7 percent property tax increase, West Islip residents easily passed the current school budget last May,  by a vote of 2,175 to 1,617.
