Islip Town Board Decision Expected Tuesday on West Islip 7-Eleven Proposal

Meeting starts at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Islip Town Hall.

The Islip Town Board is expected to cast a decision regarding a proposed 7-Eleven at the corner of Udall Road and Muncey Road in West Islip at its Tuesday afternoon meeting.

The town planning board voted on October 10 to recommend that the town board reject the zone change needed for the project, which has been a controversial topic in the community.

The land is now home to an auto repair business and had once housed a Getty gas station. The applicants, SPJ, LLC are requesting a zone change from Business 1 to Business 2 as well as a special permit to operate a convenience store.

A swell of opposition to the project centered on traffic concerns and safety issues.

In its recommendation, the planning board states both traffic issues, and the negative impact on the community, as reasons for the town board to reject the proposal.
