Islip Town Board Decision Expected Tuesday on West Islip 7-Eleven Proposal

Meeting starts at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Islip Town Hall.

The Islip Town Board is expected to cast a decision regarding a proposed 7-Eleven at the corner of Udall Road and Muncey Road in West Islip at its Tuesday afternoon meeting.

The town planning board voted on October 10 to recommend that the town board reject the zone change needed for the project, which has been a controversial topic in the community.

The land is now home to an auto repair business and had once housed a Getty gas station. The applicants, SPJ, LLC are requesting a zone change from Business 1 to Business 2 as well as a special permit to operate a convenience store.

A swell of opposition to the project centered on traffic concerns and safety issues.

In its recommendation, the planning board states both traffic issues, and the negative impact on the community, as reasons for the town board to reject the proposal.

The town board meeting will start at 2 p.m. at Islip Town Hall.

here we go again. i just hope this town board turns down this proposal. why doesnt spj sell the place to a developer to build single family homes. why do we need this 7-11. and to have the meeting at 2 in the afternoon when most people of the community work. why? so we can go to town hall in large number. again, our politicians at work.

7-11 would be perfect there (BEING SARCASTIC).... to go along with the mutt hangout barber shop across the street!!!! North part of West Islip is starting to turn into Brentwood, slowly but surly! KEEP THE 7-11 OUT OF THAT SPOT!!!!!

"Mutt hangout barber shop" that's a classy observation. Is it because there are *gasp* non-whites owning and operating a successful business in West Islip that's got you upset? Get a grip it's 2013! The owners and staff at that barber shop couldn't be nicer. I'm happy to take my kids there for haircuts!

what I want to know is how come there was no protest against Lagrange and a CVS meanwhile there's a vacant lot right next door to Lagrange.this life has been vacant for 2 years. Why can't they building new CVS on this land? the corruption is unbelievablethere must not be enough money involved with 7 11 but there is with the Grange.

GENEVIEVE, I guess you don't venture out after dark. 'Get a grip, it's 2013" That's the problem and that's why Long Island is turning into a dump. You have "MUTTS" hanging out in the parking lot at night by the car loads. Just give it time before there is a major fight, stabbing or even a shooting!(wow a shooting in WI, that can't happen) Then I can say I told you so!! People are so naive its not funny. How does this sound for "2013", GO BACK TO YOUR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD AND BLAST YOUR MUSIC, DRINK YOUR BEERS AND SMOKE YOU BLUNTS!! How about asking some store owners how they feel over there, they are not happy!! Hey maybe a 7-11 isn't such a bad idea, then maybe we would have more cops sitting in the parking lot drinking there free cups of coffee instead of sitting in the firehouse up the road.

I don't want a 711 or cvs built. We have enough of this around our neighborhood already

look kids will be kids and they have to hang out someplace. after all does the north side have enough with the home for unwed girls and the other home for mentally retarded. and i also agree w/the lot by la grange has been empty for a long time. why? because pace family owns it and cant get his price. west islip has more than its share of burglaries, drugs, police in schools only its not in the newspapers. and you're really ignorant if you think we do not have any problems here. try talking to the school police or suffolk county police sometimes. they might enlighten you. i for one do not want to hear the sound of that truck making a delivery and beeping at 3 or 4 in the morning. put it down by the rich ones south of montauk.

DM.... That had to be one I the most ridiculous posts I've ever read on the Patch. First off, yes kids will be kids but these aren't WI kids. These are kids coming from Bay Shore, Brentwood and Deer Park. It's set up for a disaster. MENTALLY RETARDED??? Really, use the term correctly, its Mentally handicapped. Please explain what the school police is?? Do you consider retired NYC cops or 70 year old men school Police? They are hall monitors with no power to arrest. One thing you are right on is the crime in the neighborhood.

oh no heaven forbit these kids are from west islip. kids from west islip have better places to hand out. perhaps if you took the time from your "busy" schedule and actually spoke w/the "hall monitors" you'd find out your squeeky clean neighborhood of west islip isnt so clean. in my time mentally retarded was the term. not handicapped. but if you feel you must correct me and it makes you feel better, that's fine.
