WI Man Electrocuted While Working on LIRR

A LIRR employee was killed when came into contact with the third rail on Sunday.

A LIRR employee and West Islip resident was killed on Sunday when he was electrocuted while working at Babyon Yard, the LIRR announced Monday. 

According to a statement made by LIRR President Helena E. Williams, Russell DeCeck was electrocuted after "apparently coming in contact with the third rail while working in Babylon Yard." He died on Sunday night. 

DeCeck, 48, was a road car inspector and 28-years employee of the LIRR, Williams said.

"Russell was a dedicated employee who began his career at the LIRR in October of 1982," Williams said. "Our heartfelt condolences go out to Russell's family, friends and co-workers.

"The LIRR is undertaking a full investigation of the cause of the accident," Williams added.
