St. John The Baptist High School Closed Monday, Tuesday Ahead of Sandy

Classes are canceled for Monday and Tuesday amidst Hurricane Sandy.

St. John The Basptist Diocesan High School has announced that it will be closed Monday and Tuesday due to Hurricane Sandy.

The school has issued the following statement from Principal Nan Doherty on their website:

"Good afternoon, as hurricane Sandy approaches the tri-state area, concerns related to the predicted high winds, coastal flooding and power outages have made it necessary to close school at St. John's on Monday and Tuesday. Please stay safe and dry. Take care."

Islip Town has issued mandatory evacuations for Category 1 Storm Surge Zones and all Mobile Home Parks located in the township. For a list of emergency shelters, click here. 

No official word yet on whether schools within the West Islip School District will be closed Monday.
