Police Seek Info In Deadly Hit And Run Case

SCPD looking for additional information about July 2 incident that killed Jason Nelson of Brighwaters.

Suffolk County Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that was involved in a fatal hit and run incident in West Islip earlier this month.

on July 2, Jason Nelson, 27, of Brightwaters, was outside a residence on Sandra Ave. when an unknown type of vehicle traveling northbound struck him, according to police. Nelson suffered severe head injuries and was later pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.

Police said the driver of the vehicle did not stop and did not report the crash. Authorities believe the incident may have been preceded by a brief altercation between Nelson and the driver of the vehicle

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident or the vehicle involved to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

i hope they catch this person who left a big hole in a familly by killing their son. There are just too many hit and runs lately and those people committing these CRIMES, especially when a death occurs as a result, should be punished for committing MURDER !!!!!

Im going to guess that the car in question is being hidden in a garage in a 3 block radius of the hit & run site on Sandra. How does the person who did this sleep at night knowing what they did? If your reading this please just turn yourself in. You will feel better afterwards.

This is horrible. People never cease to amaze me. I know someone who also got struck by a car on Bay Shore Road as he was walking on the side of the road due to his vehicle breaking down. An suv struck him in the arm with their rearview mirror. The rearview mirror fell of their suv and they continued to speed down Bay Shore road leaving the gentlemen on the side of the road with a hurt arm. This happened in Bay Shore/West Islip.
