UPDATED: West Islip FD Reports Lots of Falls, Accidents Due to Icy Road Conditions

Suffolk County police are advising drivers to use extreme caution Friday afternoon due to icy roads.

The West Islip Fire Department has had a very busy day, according to Chief Blaise J Gemellar, thanks to the icy conditions on walkways, steps, parking lots and roadways.

"It's been very busy as many people fell and needed ambulances to get to Good Samaritan," he told Patch in an email.

Suffolk County police are warning drivers Friday to use extreme caution when out on the roads due to icy conditions.

A police spokeswoman said car accidents were higher than normal for a Friday afternoon and advises that residents drive only if they have to.

According to police, there have been no major road closings, but some secondary roads have congestion due to accidents.
