Crimes Nearby: Bank Robbed, DWI With Child in Car

A look at recent crime in the region.

The following information was supplied by the Suffolk County police department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Deer Park

Police are investigating an armed robbery at Deer Park's New York Commercial Bank Thursday afternoon.

Police say a man entered the bank, located at 720 Grand Boulevard at approximately 1:15 p.m., approached a teller, displayed a handgun and passed a note to the employee demanding cash.  

The teller complied with the robber's demands and the man fled on foot.  He was last seen running southeast through the bank parking lot. 

Lindenhurst

  • Suffolk County Police have arrested a Lindenhurst man for driving while intoxicated with his two-year-old son in the vehicle on Monday evening.  First Precinct officers responded to a reported domestic dispute 911 call on East Merritt Street in Lindenhurst on Monday evening around 9:40 p.m. Upon their arrival, police said they were advised that Gilbert Lopez-Silvero, 38, had driven away from the home with his two-year-old son in the car and was possibly drunk.
  • A home healthcare worker was arrested Friday for stealing more than $81,000 worth of jewelry from a 73-year-old Garden City resident, according to village police. Garden City detectives report that Sara Cruz, 25, of Lindenhurst was employed as a home healthcare worker from Aug. 1-29.
Melville

A Melville man was arrested Monday and accused in a hit-and-run accident that killed a bicyclist earlier in the day, Suffolk County police said.

Albert Dibernardo, 28,  was identified as the driver, Suffolk police said.  Dibernardo was charged with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting involving a fatality.

The victim, who was identified asRicardo Fernandez, 44, of  Amityville, was spotted by a motorist on Express Drive North in Dix Hills, a quarter of a mile east of Burrs Lane, who then notified Suffolk police about 10:05 a.m
