Crimes Nearby: Babylon Man Charged with Murder in Deadly DWI Crash

Michael Grasing, the Babylon man accused of driving drunk and causing a car crash that killed  , is now facing a murder charge.

A grand jury indictment unsealed on Wednesday morning in a Riverhead court room is charging Grasing with second degree murder, the first time in recent memory a DWI has resulted in such a charge in Suffolk County.

In addition, he faces charges that include aggravated vehicular homicide, second degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, first degree reckless endangerment and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

The arraignment also included three lesser driving charges.

Grasing pled not guilty to all of the listed charges.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota, speaking to reporters after the arraignment, called Grasing's alleged drunk driving "some of the worst I've ever seen."

An East Patchogue man was recently stabbed by an unknown male at his home on South Country Road, police said.

The victim, whose name was not released by police, was stabbed in the chest by an unknown male on July 7. The victim was taken to for treatment.

A Patchogue man was arrested early Friday morning on charges of burglarizing a North Bellport grocery store, police said. 

Police say that Javon Brown, 21, was found after a chase from the Columbus Grocery store, located 1387 Montauk Highway, through to the area of Narrangansett Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.

The chase began when a man was discovered on the roof of the store after police officer William Boyd saw a ladder against its wall at 3 a.m. The man jumped off the roof and ran northbound through several residential yards. Canine section officer Ryan Neems and his canine, Bear, ultimately located Brown, police said. 

Brown has been charged with burglary in the third degree, and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip Friday. Police are still investigating the incident and believe at least one other person is responsible for the burglary.

Nassau County Police detectives are investigating the death of a person found floating in Oyster Bay Cove Thursday afternoon.

Police and marine units responded to the remote shoreline off Cove Neck Road in Oyster Bay Thursday after receiving reports of a body floating the water, said authorities. Officers discovered the body of an unknown person visible from a private beach on Cove Neck Road, just feet from the site, confirmed police.

Nassau County detectives are investigating the cause of death. Police have not yet identified the victim. Further details are not yet available in the investigation.
