Weekend Events: What's Happening in West Islip

Plan your weekend around these local events.

The library is hosting a how-to class for e-readers Saturday at 10 a.m. This two-hour class will discuss how to use Kindles (first hour) and Nooks and other e-readers (second hour). Attendees will also learn how to download books from the library.

Enjoy an afternoon concert at the library on Saturday. Shenole Latimer leads his Trio through a range of jazz classics spanning from the 1930s through today, starting at 3 p.m.

The third installment of the Town of Islip free summer concert series features Separate Ways, a Journey Tribute Band. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Hidden Pond Park in Hauppauge. Don't forget to bring a blanket or chairs. 

Got a classic car, or love to look at them? Saturday nights at the Bob's Shopping Center parking lot is the place to go. Classic car owners are invited to drive their vintage vehicles down and talk autos with other drivers and spectators. The event starts at 5 p.m.

The Women of West Islip are hosting a food drive Sunday to benefit local food pantries.

Non-perishable food items will be collected at on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon. If residents don't have time to shop that day, they can give a monetary donation and have one of the members shop on your behalf.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
