West Islip Public Library Budget Passes

Voters approved the library's $3.5 million budget for 2012-13.

Voters approved a $3.5 million budget on Tuesday, April 3 for the .

Residents passed the 2012-2013 budget by a vote of 299 to 86. It will take effect for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2012.

The budget came in at a total of $3,527,070, yielding a tax levy of 2.41 percent. The increase amounts to approximately $9.32 more per year per household.

“The Board of Trustees of the West Islip Public Library wish to express their appreciation to all those residents who participated in this year’s vote,” said Board President Joan Schumacher. "All of us, together with the staff of the library,  look forward to another year of serving the West Islip Community’s educational, recreational, and cultural needs.”

The funds will allow the library to continue and expand on its current programs and offerings, including expanded e-book selectons and museum passes, which have become popular among patrons. 

Incumbent Mary Alice Markham ran unopposed and was re-elected to the library's Board of Trustees.
