Week in Review: Boys LAX Win Long Island Championship, West Islip Welcomes Summer

A look back at the top headlines from the past week.

Three days after winning its , West Islip won its seventh Long Island Championship defeating Nassau champ Syosset 11-4 at Hofstra University on Saturday.

The 58th annual West Islip Memorial Day Parade was held under sunny, blue skies with temperatures that signified summer is here. Taking its usual trek south down Udall Road and Higbie Lane to Paul J. Bellew Elementary School, the parade featured members of American Legion Post 1738, the high school cheerleaders, color guard and marching band, and a host of youth and community groups. Also, the fire department was once again out in force showing off their Sunday best.

The scouts, along with several other volunteer groups, place an American flag on every grave at the Long Island National Cemetery each year on the Saturday before Memorial Day. They return the following Saturday to collect the flags.

Students at West Islip High School have a goal to provide clean drinking water to citizens of Uganda, and on Saturday, they're to help them acheive it.
