Thunderstorms Rumble Though West Islip

Strong rains douse the hamlet for the second time on Friday.

A line of strong thunderstorms moved through West Islip Friday evening, the second time in about 12 hours local residents saw flashes of lightning and heard rumbles of thunder.

The storms, which moved into West Islip just after 6 p.m., also impacted a number of communities along the south shore in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Early morning Friday, local residents were awakened to thunderstorms and strong rain. The storms in the morning and evening moved out quickly.

According to Weather.com, the forecast for the weekend calls for highs in the mid-80s on Saturday with sunny skies. On Father’s Day Sunday high temperatures are expected to be near 80 with a chance of morning showers.
