Local Officials Participate in Elizabeth T. McNamee 5K

15th annual run was held at West Islip High School on Mother's Day.

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Barraga (R-West Islip) and Suffolk County Treasurer Angie Carpenter (R-West Islip) spent Mother's Day with hundreds of local participants in the annual Elizabeth T. McNamee 5K.

The run, which just celebrated its 15th year, was started by Maria McNamee in memory of her daughter Elizabeth, a West Islip and Harvard graduate who passed away due to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in 1998. The McNamee family founded the Elizabeth T. McNamee Memorial Fund to help fund research and raise awareness about the disease, as well as provide scholarships to local students.
