Islip Officers Arrest Alleged Thief At West Islip Marina

A Bay Shore man is accused of stealing equipment from boats at West Islip Marina on April 27, according to Islip Town officials.

Eric Brabant was arrested and charged with trespassing and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property after Islip Town Park Rangers allegedly discovered emergency equipment and gasoline cans in a car driven by Brabant.

During the early hours of April 27, an Islip Park Ranger on routine patrol discovered that several boats in the marina had been broken into, according to a statement issued by the town.

The ranger reportedly approached a black Suburban parked at the dock and discovered a black bag containing boating equipment along with a strong smell of gasoline.

Brabant, the owner of the Suburban, approached the ranger and put up a struggle to identify himself, officials said.

Following a brief investigation and a search of the vehicle, Suffolk County Police and Islip Town Public Safety Officers placed Brabant under arrest.

Jessica Sullivan and Sharon Ceballo, both passengers in the Suburban at the time of the incident, were issued tickets for trespassing.
