High School, Middle Schools Reopening Tuesday

Elementary school students will head back to class on Wednesday; contingency being developed for Bayview.

High school and middle school students across West Islip will be heading back to class on Tuesday, but elementary students will have another day off.

With power issues continuing to plague Bayview Elementary School, administrators have decided to keep elementary level students home Tuesday since the schools will be used as polling places on Election Day.

Superintendent Richard Simon said in a phone call to parents across West Islip that there was concern about having students at school while voting was taking place.

Elementary students at Manetuck, Oquenock and Paul J. Bellew will be back in their classrooms on Wednesday and a contingency for Bayview students is being finalized.

In addition, after school activities, late buses and ASKUS are all canceled for the remainder of the week.
