Board of Ed to Lay Out Budget Plans

West Islip officials will hold a final budget hearing before the BOE's May meeting Tuesday at the high school.

West Islip residents will get a chance to review the proposed school budget, as the board of education meet ahead of next week's school budget votes.

A budget hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at West Islip high School. The May BOE meeting will follow immediately after.

The $114.7 million spending plan for the 2013-14 school year includes a 3.75 percent tax increase. If approved by voters, the budget would cost homeowners an additional $288 next year based on a home assessed at $45,000.

Voters will also cast their ballot on Proposition #2, which would require board of education candidates to run on an at-large basis instead of running for a specific seat.
