Shopping Local For The Holidays

Patch wants to know which merchants offer the best solutions for gifts and holiday fare.

With Christmas two weeks away and Hanukkah being celebrated through Dec. 16, residents across West Islip are on the hunt for gifts and party goods to celebrate the holidays with family and friends.

Perhaps more than ever this year, there is added importance on supporting local businesses. Already facing challenging economic conditions, local merchants are also looking to drive sales in an effort to recover revenue lost while area residents focused their attention on the cleanup from Hurricane Sandy.

To give local businesses some additional exposure, Patch is asking readers where they shop in their local community for gifts, party goods and other provisions needed to help celebrate their holiday.

In the comments section below, tell us what local merchants you shop and what items you purchase at a given store. Later this week, check back with Patch to see what your neighbors said. Perhaps you’ll get an idea of where to shop for that needed last minute gift.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
