Reptile Shop Opens on Udall

West Islip's newest business opened this past Monday.

Just in case the news slithered past you, Repxotica, West Islip's newest--and slimiest--pet store, is now open for business.

Owners and West Islip residents, Martina and Bob Scheben, celebrated the grand opening of their first business venture at 19 Udall Road this past Monday, and have been pleasantly surprised with the reception they've gotten in just a few days.

"It was very busy Monday, the day we opened, and now people have been getting to know us, trickling in, just trying to get the word out," Martina said.

So what was the idea behind opening up a reptile shop in the middle of town?  Martina explained it rested on Bob's experience of breeding captive born reptiles.

"My husband has been breeding them for 30 years," Martina said.  "He's been breeding all kinds of chameleons and different types of lizards.  We also have a strong retail background, so we decided to make a go of it."

Martina said the shop offers everything form bearded dragons, chameleons, snakes, geckos, frogs, knutes, turtles, tortoises, armadillo lizards, euro mastics and amoebas. They also sell all accessories and feeders, including crickets, mice and worms.

Repxotica will be open on weekdays from 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. and weekends from 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
