West Islip Touchdown Club Raises $1K for Breast Cancer

Proceeds were donated to the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition's "Lend A Helping Hand Program."

The Lions weren't the only ones who scored a victory at Homecoming this past weekend.

In addition to the team's victory over North Babylon, the West Islip Touchdown Committee collected donations for the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition throughout the game.

The group gathered donations from spectators and donated half of their proceeds from their Homecoming 50/50 raffle to the WIBCC's "Lend A Helping Hand" program, which supports local women battling breast cancer.

Together, donations reached almost $1,000.

The Touchdown Committee also supported the cause by wearing pink ribbon stickers and pins; the boys varsity football team sported similar stickers on their helmets.

To drum up attention, a monster truck draped in pink flags, like the ones flying in front of Good Samaritan Hospital, and the WIBCC banner drove down Higbie Lane with volunteers throwing pink Mardi-gras style beads to spectators.
