John Thomas Gaffney Golf Outing Raises More Than $20K

First annual event to remember five-year old West Islip boy attracts hundreds and raises funds for local organizations.

The First Annual John Thomas Gaffney Memorial Golf Outing proved to be a huge success as the event Monday raised more than $20,000.

Founded by John’s parents, Teri and Kevin Gaffney and Keith McGurk — Teri’s cousin— funds raised at the event held at The Hamlet at Willow Creek in Mt. Sinai will benefit the charity named to remember the 5-year old West Islip boy.

During the outing, 102 golfers hit the links and an additional 156 dinner only guests attended the event. Additional funds were raised through the sale of a 50/50 raffle and raffle tickets where guests had a chance to win 58 prize baskets and 13 big-ticket items.
