Blue Star Mothers Hold Meet & Greet

The Blue Star Mothers held a meet-and-greet at American Legion Post 1738 on Saturday afternoon in an effort to educate local familes about the group.  The organization is comprised of mothers who have children currently serving in the armed forces, and has become a group where members can share their concerns and ensure the safety of their loved ones.

"We are here for mothers of children that are fighting for our freedom.  It can be worrisome, the thought of loosing your child is unbearable.  It helps to know that you're not the only one with fears or struggles," said Cindy Ventura, Financial Secretary of the Blue Star Mothers.

The meeting on Saturday proved to be a celebration of those who are serving, and to invite all military families to get involved with the Blue Star Mothers.

Speaking at the event was Gregory Buck, Commander of American Legion 1738, and Suffolk County Legislator Thomas F. Barraga of West Islip, who is a two-star general for the Marine Corps Reserves.  

To help the Blue Star Mothers, Barraga presented a check of $1,500 to the organization.  

"You all do a wonderful job bringing the community together and comforting those who are struggling while your loved ones are fighting for our country so far away," he said.
