A Year Later: Sandy's Footprints Still Visible in West Islip

In most cases, it's a bare outline fading fast. In other situations the footprint remains big.

Take a slow cruise along Eaton Lane and the various Sequams Lanes and if you look closely you'll see many homeowners still hard at work repairing and restoring houses hit hard by super storm Sandy one year ago this week.

On October 30, 2012 the same roadways were several feet underwater from the south tips up to nearly Montauk Highway in one case. Car tires were barely visible on some streets.

And when the bay finally rescinded many homes not only had suffered flood and water damage, but tremendous loss of items and yard landscaping.

Now, a year later, a good majority are back in great shape, with fauna and landscaping thriving. In some cases though houses are being raised, walkways fixed, front stoops replaced from the near-hurricane event.
