West Islip is a place in flux. Two elementary schools have closed, the hamlet is hoping to attract new businesses to fill vacancies, and the ideological differences between local preservationists and proponents of change play out daily in our comment streams.

It's times like these that people get to thinking about the home they love so much, coming up with their own ideas, be them wild stretches of the imagination or practical fixes that are altogether doable, to keep West Islip great into the forseeable future.
