West Islip Chamber of Commerce Constructing 9/11 Memorial

A beam from the World Trade Center will be the centerpiece of the memorial on Udall Road.

The West Islip Chamber of Commerce is in the process of building a 9/11 memorial at the junction of Higbie Lane and Udall Road.

A steel beam from Ground Zero will be mounted into a stone inside the memorial, and the stone will be engraved. There will also be seating around the perimeter of the memorial so visitors can sit and reflect.

"Please remember those affected by this tragic event and move forward with inspiration to make this world a better one," wrote President Diane Fontana on WICC's website.
