At around 2:3o p.m. today in front of West Islip High School, on the corner of Ogden Road and Higbie Lane, three cars collided, causing a major traffic jam.
A woman driving a black Nissa Altima was in the left-hand turning lane while talking on her cell phone. Garrett Ognibene, a member of the West Islip High School Class of 2009, in a black Volkswagen, was driving southbound on Higbie Lane when the woman jutted out from the turning lane, causing a massive collision right in front of the West Islip High School, according to a West Islip High School graduate (Class of 2009) who was involved in the collision and wished to remain anonymous.
The accident caused a major traffic build up that affected drivers on Union Boulevard and Higbie Lane. Students at West Islip High School are taking their final exams this week and students waiting at the light on Lions Path were forced to turn around and exit school grounds another way.

Fortunately, all drivers involved in the crash were not seriously hurt and the cars were towed within the hour.
