Police: Credit Card Frauds Busted on Sagtikos Parkway

Mario Jeanty Jr. lied to authorities to try to avoid arrest, according to state police.

Two alleged credit card fraudsters were pulled over by police and arrested Monday while driving on the Sagtikos Parkway in the town of Islip, police said.

New York State troopers stopped a 2006 BMW for speeding on the parkway just after 9 p.m., according to New York State Police. The driver of the vehicle, Francis Berquin, 37 and the passenger, Mario Jeanty Jr., 29, both of Brooklyn, were arrested and charged with Credit Card Fraud and other charges after police allegedly discovered forged credit cards, gift cards and electronics purchased at several Best Buy stores on Long Island.

Jeanty was charged as a fugitive from justice and criminal impersonation after he lied to police in an attempt to hide his identity, knowing he was wanted on similar fraud charges in New York City, Massachusetts and New Jersey, police said.
