VIDEO: Moore's OT Goal Lifts West Islip Past Smithtown West 8-7

Tom Moore scored three minutes into the extra period to give the Lions their 34th consecutive win.

Junior Tom Moore scored the game-winning goal off a feed from Andrew Federico with 1:21 remaining in the first overtime period to give No. 2 West Islip an 8-7 victory over No. 17 Smithtown West in a League I showdown.

The win keeps the Lions (13-0) unbeaten on the season and extends their winning streak to 34 consecutive games dating back to last season.

"We don't really care about that stat, I think it's overrated," said senior Mike Sagl, who tallied a hat trick and two assists.  "I think we just need to play hard each game and not look ahead and just play for the moment.  We'll be successful if we do that."

Moore also added a hat trick and Conor Braddish had a goal and assist for the Lions.

Junior James Pannell totaled three goals for Smithtown (9-3) and Frank Reda had two goals and an assist, including the game-tying goal with 3:27 left to play in the fourth.

Smithtown led 4-2 lead after the first quarter, with three goals coming from Pannell and one from Reda. But West Islip went on a 4-0 run to end the half, highlighted by Sagl's three goals and a goal from sophomore Nick Aponte off a Sagl assist.

Smithtown Senior Ryan Joseph cut the Lions' lead to one with four minutes remaining in the third when he rolled out from behind the net and ripped a shot past West Islip goalie Kyle Turri.  Reda was able to tie the game at seven late in the fourth when he found the back of the net from five yards out.

But in the extra period, Federico found a cutting Moore from behind the Bulls' goal and he was able stop, spin and blast a shot past Ryan Adler.

"The defense played great," Moore said.  "They got a stop, we got the ball back and put it in the back of the cage."
