Joey Discharged From West Islip Animal Hospital

Joey, the is living with a foster family after being discharged from the Veterinary Medical center of Long Island in West Islip on Friday, Newsday reports. 

He's also begun walking--something doctors feared he would never be able to do.

The three-month-old puppy has undergone extensive treatment for a fractured neck at the West Islip vet since he was wrapped in a plastic bag and thrown from a moving vehicle in Brentwood last month.

"He's doing very well," Dr. Lynda Loudon-Sheppard, chief of emergency medicine, told the paper. "He tires very easily, but he's much stronger than we ever expected at this stage."

Since the news of Joey's story broke, local residents and organizations have donated $39,000 for his care and more than for information that leads to the arrest of his abuser(s).

According to Newsday, Joey will be eligible for adoption in about a month and more than 100 people have expressed interest in adopting him.
