Costantino Leads WI Past Smithtown East

Freshman scores 5 times as Lions top Bulls 15-11.

The West Islip girls lacrosse team jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against Smithtown East and made that lead stand up, defeating the Bulls 15-11 Tuesday afternoon at West Islip High School.

Led by freshman Vanessa Costantino’s five goals and 10 total points, the Lions won for the ninth time in 11 conference games and is currently tied for second place with Ward Melville at 9-2, one game behind Bay Shore (10-1). The top four seeds receive a first round bye in the playoffs.

In addition to Costantino’s stellar offensive performance, Cara Douglas had 3 goals and an assist and Lindsay Darrel chipped in with 2 goals and 2 assist. Ruthann Dooling was strong in goal with 10 saves. 

West Islip has three games remaining in the season: This Friday at Sachem East, Thursday, May 9, at home vs. Hauppauge and at West Babylon on Monday, May 13.
