Jan C. Porinchak is a Kings Park, Long Island, artist and naturalist. He is a middle school art teacher, and freelance illustrator.

Jan is a hike leader for the Sierra Club and serves on the Environmental Committee of the Nissequogue River State Park Foundation. He has organized and participated in a number of volunteer activities to benefit the environment such as native plant habitat restorations and trail cleanups. Jan has made numerous presentations on natural history for parks and organizations on Long Island, and has written articles for the Long Island chapter of Sierra Club about the reptiles and amphibians found in this region.

Jan recently hosted the short film "Ecosystems of Life" in collaboration with the Kings Park Heritage Museum. The film is being used for educational purposes in the science curriculum of the Kings Park School District. It can be viewed on the Museum's website or on YouTube.

Jan's hobbies include fishing, running, weight training, archery and mountain biking. He also enjoys hiking with his three children.
