West Islip Agenda: Hispanic Heritage Festival, Great Jack-O-Lantern Sail

Check out what's happening around town this weekend, Oct. 25-27.

The temperatures may be falling, but there's still plenty to do out on the town this weekend. So let's take a look at a few fun events taking place around the region:

WEST ISLIP

A Mother's Kiss' 19th Annual Halloween Dance

The honoree for this year's event being held Saturday at the West Islip Fire Department is Jesse P., a 6-year-old boy from Miller Place who is currently undergoing treatment for acute lyphoblastic leukemia. The event starts at 6 p.m.

NORTH BABYLON

Great Jack-O-Lantern Sail 

Get ready for a spooky afternoon at Belmont Lake State Park's Great Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular Sail this Saturday.

Children can take part in the big Halloween sail by bringing their carved pumpkins to the park that weight no less than five, but no more than 10 pounds. The pumpkins must be dropped off earlier in the day starting at 11 a.m. The big event will also include a costume parade, balloon twisting, spider and bat crafts, trick or treating, a dance party, games and much more. The pumpkins themselves will set sail on the lake at 6 p.m.

Hispanic Heritage Festival 

The Town of Babylon Department of Human Services will host the 15th annual Hispanic Heritage Festival this Saturday in North Babylon.  The annual celebration will take place at the Town Hall Annex on Phelps Lane and kick-off at 11 a.m.

Honoring First Responders of Hurricane Sandy  

The Town of Babylon will honor first responders who put their lives on the line during the onslaught of Hurricane Sandy last October, heading into deep waters, burning buildings and wrecked homes to help their neighbors out.

The event will take place at the Pavilion at Tanner Park starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday as Supervisor Rich Schaffer thanks over 100 of the bravest in the town.

Celebration of Strength

Neighbors Supporting Neighbors is hosting a "Celebration of Strength" event at the Frederick Shores Beach Club this Saturday. The event will celebrate the strength shown by families affected by Hurricane Sandy almost one year ago to the day the storm touched down in the the northeast.

The celebration will include barbecued food, trick-or-treating for kids, a DJ and dancing and raffle events. The event will get underway at Frederick Shores Beach Club at the end of Little East Neck Road South at 3 p.m.

LINDENHURST

Patron Appreciation Day

The Lindenhurst Memorial Library will host a fun festival to celebrate its local patrons this Saturday.

Announced events during the celebration includes musical entertainment, refreshments, children's crafts, outdoor rides, face painting, pumpkin decorating and more. The free event gets underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday and continues until 4 p.m. at the library.
