Snow Warning for Tuesday, Obamacare Talk, Get Ready to Zumba

Happy Veterans Day and Patch is hoping many West Islip residents are enjoying a long Fall weekend as we gear up for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

To help residents stay up on local events and programs Patch offers a look at what's happening this week in and around town:

Snow Coming?

Yesterday's rain shower literally came out of a blue sky and now weather reports indicate a possible snow 'shower' on Tuesday with temps in the 40s through Wednesday. It is supposed to get a little warmer by mid week with temps hitting mid 50s by Friday.

Board of Education Meeting

There is a West Islip School Board of Education meeting on Thurs., Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. at the high school.

Seminar on the Affordable Care Act

North Shore-LIJ is sponsoring a seminar workshop about the newly implemented Affordable Care Act at the Boulton Center from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on  Thurs., Nov. 14. The workshop wiill review the upcoming changes to healthcare. Wine and cheese will be served between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the presentation, hosted by will Alan Murray, president of North Shore-LIJ CareConnect, will begin at 7 p.m. For registration or questions about the event please contact Lisa Finnegan at 631-647-3825 or Lfinnegan1@nshs.edu.

PTA Zumbathon Fundraiser

A Zumbathon is taking place Fri., Nov. 15 at Oquenock Elementary School at 425 Spruce Avenue, starting at 6 p.m. The PTA fundraiser will be led by Jenn Friaglia, from Movez. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Wear fun bright colors and comfortable sneakers. The cost is $15/adult & $10/child.  Cash or checks made payable to the Oquenock PTA. Admission can be paid at the door.
