Community Corner

Helping Hands Valentine's Day Drive

Helping Hands in West Islip, Inc. is seeking donations of
new and slightly-used footwear (shoes, sneakers, boots, slippers, socks) and
Valentine goodies for distribution to children and adults at homeless shelters
and community centers such as Gerald Ryan Outreach, Faith House of Prayer and
Headstarts.  Please tie them together
with a red ribbon or put them in a clean box (decorated if you’d like) and
attach a small toy or treat, homemade Valentine card or snack (students needing
community service hours, take note, this is a good time for you to bake, craft or
fill goody bags with some holiday fun).
Donations can be dropped off on February 9, 2011 before 9:30AM (cannot
be later) at the American Legion Hall, 340 Union Boulevard (across from
firehouse), West Islip.

            Regular
donors know we accept almost anything in like-new condition to assure that no
child or adult feels left out or ignored.
We operate on a zero budget and always need  supplies such as candy, tape, paper and trash
bags and would be grateful if you or your group would consider a carwash,
lemonade stand, garage sale, bake sale or even a home party with proceeds
donated to our drives.  You are the only
source of income for our out-of-pocket costs.
Please consider helping us.  Last
year over 2,000 less fortunate people were helped by your generous support and
the need is even greater this year.

For more information or to arrange donations of items
more suitable for our other drives (back-to-school, Halloween, Thanksgiving,
Christmas), please visit  Helping Hands at
www.freewebs.com/hhinwi or jengallozzi@optonline.net . Thank you!
