5 Things to do in West Islip Before Summer is Gone

Say it ain't so, but alas, all good things must come to an end.

We don't really want to talk about it, but soon buses will be heading down neighborhood roads and leaves will be falling. Yes, summer is coming to an end, so instead of lamenting, let's jam in as much warm weather fun while the sun is still high in the sky and the ocean waters are still warm.

Here are four warm weather classics and a new one to try before the summer sun sets.

Dine in the Summer Wind
You within a short drive of a fabulous shoreline and ocean for crying out loud! We sure hope that by now you've dined by the water at least once on a patio or a deck. Babylon Village boasts a few options and if head a bit further east West Sayville's Kingston is a big hit for those liking outdoor dining.

Grab a cone or a cup of your favorite frozen stuff
Ice cream tastes better in the summer, right? So does frozen yogurt and there's no shortage of either in the village. Now there's even a new gelato place on Montauk Highway, New York Gelato.

Shop the Farmers Market
It's outside, it's fresh and it's almost gone. There's still time to grab the summer's best tomatoes, lettuces and herbs at the farmer's market at Islip Town Hall on Saturdays. Not only does it tastes good, but you will feel good when you support our small farms.

Beaching It
Got your toes in the sand yet this summer? We are footsteps away from Robert Moses. Swim the ocean, have a picnic lunch or dinner, grab a last batch of seashells for the collection.

Visit the Lighthouse
Yes you've been there before, but now that Fire Island's shape has changed due to dune loss the view from the top is much different.
