You Call the Game: Let's Talk West Islip Sports

Join our open blog and voice your opinions or post pictures to support the West Islip Lions.

The West Islip varsity football team opens its season at home against Smithtown West at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The buzz in in the air. Could this be West Islip's year? The top-seeded and undefeated Lions were stunned in the first round of the county playoffs by West Babylon last year, but Lions quarterback Sam Ilario was playing that game with a torn ankle tendon. Illario is back at full strength and ready to help lead the Lions to victory this season.

Heading to the game? Taking some photos of your and your friends in the stands? Got a message you want to share with the players, or some comments before and after kickoff? Share it on our new open sports blog on West Islip Patch.
