WIHS Grad Erin Walter Earns Academic All-American Honors

Junior a key part of Philadelphia University soccer team's 2010 conference championship.

Erin Walter, a 2008 graduate of where she was a member of the varsity girls soccer team, not only stars on the soccer field in her new home at Philadelphia University, but in the classroom as well.

Walter, whose younger sister Kelli was a key member of the in her junior year at WIHS, was named to the ESPN Academic All-American Women's soccer team for the second straight season.

She is a biology major in the Honor's Program at Philadelphia University, where she is a starting midfielder for the Lady Rams NCAA Division II women's soccer team. She is now in her junior year in the Pre-Med program and sports a sparkling 3.996 GPA.

"Erin's one of the leaders on our team," Rams head coach George Dunbar said. "She's a very competitive, hard working individual and has progressed being a key member of our team. She is a leader on and off the field and probably one of our hardest working individuals on our team."

Walter appeared in 15 games her freshman year for the Rams before playing in all 21 games her sophomore season to earn her first Academic All-American honor. In 2010, Walter started every game for the Rams as they won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season championship, all while earning a spot on the All-American First Team and becoming a more important part in the Rams' offense.

"She held down the center midfield spot for most of her time here and we just started moving her into the outside mid position so she's more involved in our offensive attack," Dunbar said. "Erin's a good student, leader and important part of our program."
