WI LAX Player Eyes Scotland Trip

Peter Gonzalez looking for community's help to cover costs of overseas trip and tournament.

Peter Gonzalez has an opportunity to play lacrosse in Scotland this summer, but needs some financial assistance.

The West Islip High School graduate and current lacrosse star at SUNY Cobleskill, which competes at the NCAA Division III level, has been invited to play on the USA Athletes International lacrosse team as part of the Scottish Friendship Games next month.

The Games, which are an Olympic-style program, gives athletes on opportunity to experience the competition, history and culture of other countries and showcase their talents on the international stage.

“This is a great opportunity for Peter,” said Michael Gonzalez, his brother.

Peter Gonzalez has enjoyed a successful playing career in college through his first three years. This past season he was named to the North Eastern Athletic Conference’s (NEAC) All-NEAC First Team, the first time a Cobleskill lacrosse player has been given the honor for two consecutive seasons.

During the 2012 season, he scored 18 goals and had a conference leading 35 assists to go along with 35 groundballs.

To help cover the cost of Peter’s participation on the U.S. team, a boat cruise fundraiser is scheduled for Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Taryn Ann out of Captree. The donation is $50.
