WI Hoops Loses Tough Battle Vs. Bay Shore

Fourth quarter burst by Marauders leads to victory over Lions on Senior Night.

A capacity crowd filled the boys gym at West Islip High School Friday night as the boys basketball team lost a tough battle against rival Bay Shore 49-43.

A victory would have kept West Islip in contention for a spot in the playoffs. The team finishes out its season Tuesday night on the road against Northport.

While West Islip was defeated, the team fought hard against Bay Shore and kept the crowd at the edge of their seats on Senior Night. The Marauders led at halftime 25-24 but a tight defensive third quarter in which the two teams combined for only nine points found the Lions leading 29-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

But the scoring picked up in the final quarter as Bay Shore outscored West Islip 20-14 to secure the hard fought victory.

The Lions played the game without senior Kyle Turri, who was suffering from a stress fracture in shin.

For West Islip, senior guard James Tucci led the team with 11 points and Chris Anderson had 10. Bay Shore was led by K.J. Hammond who scored 11 points.
