WI Girls LAX Tops Ward Melville

Lions defeat rival Patriots 12-8.

A dominating second half defensive performance helped propel West Islip to a 12-8 win over Ward Melville Thursday in a battle of two of Suffolk's top girls lacrosse teams.

Following a highly competitive first half in which the Lions took an 8-7 lead to the half, West Islip outscored Ward Melville 4-1 in the second 25 minutes to secure the win.

Once the Lions extended its lead in the second half, West Islip played keep away and maintained control of the ball for what seemed to be the entire final 10 minutes of the game.

West Islip was led by Riley Hill (3G, 2A) and Cara Douglas (3G). Emily Piciullo chipped in with 2 goals and Lindsay Darrell had 1 goal and 3 total points.

With the win West Islip moves to 5-2 in conference while Ward Melville falls to 6-1.
