WI Alumni Sports Report: Crimi, Adelphi Start Season Strong

Weekly column highlights athletic accomplishments of former WIHS students.

Lacrosse

  • Sophomore Andrew Hodgson recorded one goal for Towson (2-2) in a 10-8 victory over Mount St. Mary's.  
  • Senior middie Lauren Spagnoletta recorded two goals in No.3 Post's first game of the season, a 16-5 dismantling of Saint Anselm.  Teammate Katie Rotan added a goal and assist also.  
  • Freshman Kyle Turri, who is now starting in net for Duke, made eight saves in a 10-7 loss to Maryland.  Justin Turri contributed with two goals also for the (3-2) Blue Devils.  
  • Quinnipiac freshman Mike Sagl had one of his team's three goals in a lop-sided loss at Air Force this past Saturday.  
  • Hofstra junior Ian Braddish had a goal and assist in a huge 7-6 victory over ranked Harvard on Saturday.  
  • Devan Crimi, sophomore at No. 1 Adelphi, started off the season hot by scoring six goals and four assists in her first two games for the defending DII champs.  
  • Eddie Plompen, Preseason Offensive of the Year in DII, scored a team-high four goals in a bounce back 13-6 victory over Southern N.H.  
  • Syracuse goalie Alyssa Costantino had a career-high 13 saves in a 2OT thrilling win at No. 4 Florida.  Costantino was named to the Big East Women's Lacrosse Honor Roll for her effort.

  • Lindsay Aponte (sophomore, Sacred Heart) had a big ending to her indoor season. In the shot put, she placed 2nd in her conference with a personal best throw of 46'8" leading her team to a 3rd place finish. The following weekend Lindsay emerged as the lone individual New England Champion for the women, winning the shot put competition with a throw of 14.09m and leading her team to a 2nd place finish. This past weekend she competed at the ECAC Championship finishing 8th place in the shot put claiming All-Conference, All-New England and All-East honors. 
  • Uconn junior Joe Clark took home the top podium spot in the mile this past weekend at the IC41 Championships, clocking in at 4:03.82.
